Broadcast Journalism

Broadcast journalism is definitely something I wish I had done more of the past four years, and I hope to do more of it later on in my journalistic career. Mercer Island High School has two major student media platforms: The MIHS Islander and KMIH 88.9 The Bridge, the school's radio station. While the two groups share a friendly rivalry, we have worked together on a variety of projects to mutually benefit each other's popularity.

Videojournalism: "Athlete Interviews"

As the Sports Editor, my main job was to generate sports coverage for our newspaper. However, for the majority of my junior year, there were no high school sports to report on due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, to make up for the lack of sports articles, I made a series of videos where I interviewed MIHS Athletes over Zoom on their athletic careers and their favorite memories playing their sport, along with a variety of other topics.

In this video, I interviewed MIHS soccer captain Emily Yang.
